Für mein Bachelorprojekt habe ich die Averno gestaltet – eine Duospace-Schrift inspiriert von der Lyrikerin und Nobelpreisträgerin Louise Glück. Sie besteht aus zwei Schriftschnitten, Regular und Italic, und umfasst etwa 150 Glyphen, darunter Majuskeln, Minuskeln, Ligaturen und Satzzeichen. Mit ihrer sanften, reduzierten und doch sehr eleganten Sprache schafft Louise Glück Einblicke in den Alltag ganz gewöhnlicher Menschen – Momentaufnahmen aus dem Leben, die ein Gefühl der Nostalgie hinterlassen. Die Averno kombiniert Elemente einer dynamischen und einer statischen Schrift. Hierdurch spiegelt sie Louise Glücks ruhige Ernsthaftigkeit wider und lässt sich in einem literarischen Kontext verorten, behält aber trotzdem eine gewisse Verspieltheit. Die zwei festgelegten Zeichendikten des Duospace-Konzepts verleihen der Schrift den Charakter einer Monospace-Schrift und ermöglichen zugleich den Einsatz von Ligaturen sowie einen ausgeglicheneren Grauwert.

For my bachelor project, I designed Averno – a duospace typeface inspired by the poet and Nobel Prize winner Louise Glück. It consists of two weights, regular and italic, and comprises around 150 glyphs, including majuscules, minuscules, ligatures and punctuation marks. With her gentle, reduced and yet very elegant language, Louise Glück creates insights into the everyday lives of ordinary people - snapshots of life that leave behind a feeling of nostalgia. Averno combines elements of a dynamic and a static typeface. In this way, it reflects Louise Glück's calm earnestness and can be located in a literary context while still retaining a certain playfulness. The two fixed widths of the duospace concept lend the font the character of a monospace typeface and at the same time allow the use of ligatures and a more balanced grey value.
