Im Rahmen des Buchgestaltungs-Kurses bei Prof. André Heers und Prof.in Annette le Fort zum Thema »DU UND ICH« gestaltete ich im Wintersemester 23/24 das Buch »Odyssee im Weltraum« von Arthuc C. Clarke – zum gleichnamigen Film von Stanley Kubrick – als Hardcover Bindung. Die typografische Umsetzung besteht aus einem Blocksatz, der sich im Verlauf der sich immer weiter zuspitzenden Geschichte, mit der Malfunction des Boardcomputers HAL 9000, in einen Flattersatz übergeht. Verschiedene Hinweise des technischen Ausfalls werden durch nach links versetzte Ausbuchtungen einzelner Zeilen erfahrbar. Das Cover gleicht einer schriftgestalterischen Übersetzung von äußeren Raumschiff-Strukturen.

As part of the book design course taught by Prof. André Heers and Prof. Annette le Fort, the book 2001: A Space Odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke – based on the film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick – was designed as a hardcover edition during the winter semester 2023/24. The typographic concept employs justified text, which gradually transitions into ragged-right setting as the narrative intensifies, culminating in the malfunction of the onboard computer HAL 9000. Indicators of the technical failure are conveyed through individually indented lines, offset to the left, creating visual disruptions in the text flow. The cover design constitutes a typographic interpretation of exterior spaceship structures.
