The depicted fortress symbolizes patriarchal power structures in which men maintain their rule through control and intimidation. It denies insight and participation by excluding any external view, thereby isolating subordinates. Within this stronghold, the violence necessary to keep an authoritarian system stable is concentrated. Inspired by the figure of Bluebeard, the fortress thus becomes an allegory of male claims to omnipotence and of the secrecy required to conceal such structures.
